Oman’s Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL) under Royal Decree No. 6/2022 applies to all organizations that collect, process, or store personal data in Oman. Organizations must achieve full compliance by February 2026.

Immediate action is essential, as PDPL compliance requires significant preparation, including policy updates, technical safeguards, governance frameworks, and (where applicable) appointment of a Data Protection Officer (DPO). Delays may lead to regulatory penalties, legal exposure, and reputational risk.

Key PDPL requirements include obtaining explicit consent or establishing lawful processing grounds, implementing strong data security and privacy controls, enabling data subject rights, mandatory breach notifications, and appointing a DPO when required.
